The optimism surrounding the Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell's hint last week that the central bank might start cutting interest rates as early as next month faded. The market anticipated NVIDIA's (NVDA.US) quarterly results to be announced on Wednesday and eyed on the US July PCE to be released on Friday.
US bourse opened lower and trended lower on Monday. The DJIA drifted lower to close near its intraday low, down 349 points or 0.8%, at 45,282. The S&P 500 also settled down 27 points or 0.4%, at 6,439. The Nasdaq closed down 47 points or 0.2%, at 21,449.
Intel (INTC.US) shares fluctuated and retreated on Monday, concluding lower by 1%, as the company warned that US government investments could pose risks to shareholders and international sales.
Techs were in a mixed bag, with Tesla (TSLA.US) rising 1.9% against the trend, NVIDIA up 1%, and Alphabet (GOOG.US) also up 1.2%. Apple (AAPL.US) and Meta (META.US) fell by 0.2-0.3%.
